About this work

A custom restoration of a centennial 1923 National Cash Register (Model 442), originally set for Spanish Pesetas. Found in ruins, the oak base was hollowed by woodworm, absorbing half a liter of injected treatment, consolidated with thick-syringed expanding glue, and hand-sanded for 4 months before a satin black lacquer finish. The metal housing features a stunning high-gloss faux-burled wood grain finish. To build its "Soda Fountain" theme, I engineered a modular system using hidden neodymium magnets, making the top Coca-Cola marquee and rear logos fully interchangeable and removable. The counter plate is high-gloss white methacrylate. It features authentic period piano brass sconces on the sides, custom drawer fittings from a different National model, and the intricate brass side and rear trims were meticulously salvaged from an antique crystal chandelier. A titanic mechanical rescue transformed into operational kinetic art.
