About this work
Clock Sphere 1, from the series Victorian’s Bauhaus, combines glazed grogged clay, a printed pocket watch and metal clockwork gears. Its pale surface, covered with a network of glaze cracks, evokes a precious object kept in a Victorian drawing room. The image of the watch meets the physical substance of a mechanism — image and object become parts of a single imagined construction. The spherical form suggests a small world whose rhythm might be measured and ordered. Within this fantasy of precision, I retain the fragility of ceramics, recalling the uncertainty of our attempts to master time.
