Returns & Refunds

We want you to love what you buy. Steampunk.au is a marketplace of independent makers, so returns are arranged with the individual shop you bought from — with your rights under Australian Consumer Law always protected.

Your consumer guarantees

Under Australian Consumer Law, you’re entitled to a repair, replacement or refund if an item is faulty, not as described, or doesn’t do what it’s meant to. These rights can’t be signed away and apply no matter what any individual shop’s policy says.

Change of mind

Many of our pieces are handmade, one-of-a-kind or made to order, so change-of-mind returns are at each maker’s discretion rather than guaranteed. If you think you might want to return something simply because it wasn’t for you, check with the shop before you buy — most makers are wonderfully accommodating.

Custom & personalised pieces

Items made or personalised specially for you generally can’t be returned for change of mind, since they can’t be re-sold — but your consumer guarantees still apply if something is wrong with them.

If something arrives faulty or damaged

How refunds are made

Refunds are returned to your original payment method. The maker who sold you the item processes the refund; if you have any trouble reaching them, contact us and we’ll step in to help.
